Ecclesiastes  5:4 When thou vowest a vow unto God, defer not to pay it; for he hath no pleasure in fools: pay that which thou hast vowed.  5:5 Better is it that thou shouldest not vow, than that thou shouldest vow and not pay.  5:6 Suffer not thy mouth to cause thy flesh to sin; neither say thou before the angel, that it was an error: wherefore should God be angry at thy voice, and destroy the work of thine hands?

Matthew  12:36 But I say unto you, That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment.  12:37 For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be condemned.

Many people inside and outside of the church in the time past and even now in our contemporary time have gotten into avoidable challenges in life, by making unguarded and unscriptural vows.

Samantha made unguarded vows that affected her from being able to conceive and gave birth to a child for ten years.

It is important that when you make vows, make sure it is scriptural and endeavor like Hannah to fulfill your vow.

Job  22:27 Thou shalt make thy prayer unto him, and he shall hear thee, and thou shalt pay thy vows.

Psalms  50:14 Offer unto God thanksgiving; and pay thy vows unto the most High:

Psalms  66:13 I will go into thy house with burnt offerings: I will pay thee my vows,

Psalms  116:14 I will pay my vows unto the LORD now in the presence of all his people.

Hannah made vow and fulfilled it and God bless her exceedingly for doing so.

1 Samuel  1:9 So Hannah rose up after they had eaten in Shiloh, and after they had drunk. Now Eli the priest sat upon a seat by a post of the temple of the LORD.  1:10 And she was in bitterness of soul, and prayed unto the LORD, and wept sore.  1:11 And she vowed a vow, and said, O LORD of hosts, if thou wilt indeed look on the affliction of thine handmaid, and remember me, and not forget thine handmaid, but wilt give unto thine handmaid a man child, then I will give him unto the LORD all the days of his life, and there shall no razor come upon his head.  1:27 For this child I prayed; and the LORD hath given me my petition which I asked of him:  1:28 Therefore also I have lent him to the LORD; as long as he liveth he shall be lent to the LORD. And he worshipped the LORD there.

1 Samuel  2:11 And Elkanah went to Ramah to his house. And the child did minister unto the LORD before Eli the priest.  2:18 But Samuel ministered before the LORD, being a child, girded with a linen ephod.  2:19 Moreover his mother made him a little coat, and brought it to him from year to year, when she came up with her husband to offer the yearly sacrifice.  2:20 And Eli blessed Elkanah and his wife, and said, The LORD give thee seed of this woman for the loan which is lent to the LORD. And they went unto their own home.  2:21 And the LORD visited Hannah, so that she conceived, and bare three sons and two daughters. And the child Samuel grew before the LORD.

You can follow the exemplary lifestyle of Hannah and make scriptural vows too.

But then endeavor to fulfill your vow because of its negative consequences.

Endeavor to avoid using your mouth to bring you into avoidable pains.
