Blessed are the pure in heart.

Blessed are the pure in heart.

Matthew  5:8 Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God.

In opposition to the Pharisees, who insisted on outward purity while their hearts were full of corruption and defilement.

Our Lord here shows that a purification of the heart from all vile affections and desires, is the the essential requisite to enter the kingdom of God.

The pure in heart are those who have been delivered from sins power by God’s grace and now strive without deceit to please and glorify God and to be like Him.

They seek to have the same attitude of heart that God has.  A love for righteousness and hatred of evil, like Christ.

Hebrews  1:9 Thou hast loved righteousness, and hated iniquity; therefore God, even thy God, hath anointed thee with the oil of gladness above thy fellows.

Their heart which includes their minds, wills and emotions are in tune with the heart of God.

1 Samuel  13:14 But now thy kingdom shall not continue: the LORD hath sought him a man after his own heart, and the LORD hath commanded him to be captain over his people, because thou hast not kept that which the LORD commanded thee.

Matthew  22:37 Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.

Psalms  24:3 Who shall ascend into the hill of the LORD? or who shall stand in his holy place?  24:4 He that hath clean hands, and a pure heart; who hath not lifted up his soul unto vanity, nor sworn deceitfully.

Psalms  51:10 Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.

Here is a trait of character which God’s spirit alone can produce. This is sanctification.

A pure heart is a heart with nothing there in contrary to the love of God.

Hearts can be pure only when it is  purified. These is because the following characterize a heart that is not pure.

The heart must be purified from the following:

Jeremiah  17:9 The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?

James  4:8 Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded.

James  3:14 But if ye have bitter envying and strife in your hearts, glory not, and lie not against the truth.

Hebrews  3:12 Take heed, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief, in departing from the living God.

This is what happens after the heart is purified.

Philippians  4:8 Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.

1 Timothy  1:5 Now the end of the commandment is charity out of a pure heart, and of a good conscience, and of faith unfeigned:

1 Timothy  3:9 Holding the mystery of the faith in a pure conscience.

1 Timothy  5:22 Lay hands suddenly on no man, neither be partaker of other men’s sins: keep thyself pure.

1 Peter  1:22 Seeing ye have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit unto unfeigned love of the brethren, see that ye love one another with a pure heart fervently:

Jesus declared that only the pure in heart shall see God.

Matthew  5:8 Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God.

They shall see Him here and hereafter.

He whose soul is not delivered from all sins through the precious blood of Jesus, have no scriptural hope of ever with God.

To see God means to be His child and to dwell in His presence both now and the future kingdom.

Exodus  33:11 And the LORD spake unto Moses face to face, as a man speaketh unto his friend. And he turned again into the camp: but his servant Joshua, the son of Nun, a young man, departed not out of the tabernacle.

1 John  3:1 Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God: therefore the world knoweth us not, because it knew him not.  3:2 Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is.  3:3 And every man that hath this hope in him purifieth himself, even as he is pure.

We enter into full communion with the Lord only when our hearts are cleansed from all sins.

1 John  1:7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.

Revelation  21:7 He that overcometh shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he shall be my son.

Revelation  22:4 And they shall see his face; and his name shall be in their foreheads.

His all sufficient grace will avail for you in Jesus name.

2 Corinthians  9:8 And God is able to make all grace abound toward you; that ye, always having all sufficiency in all things, may abound to every good work:

Let us pray.
