THE BEATITUDES: the poor in the spirit.

Matthew  5:3 Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.  5:4 Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted.  5:5 Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth.  5:6 Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.  5:7 Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy.  5:8 Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God.  5:9 Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God.  5:10 Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness’ sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.  5:11 Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake.  5:12 Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you.

They are eight in numbers and today we start with the first one.

Blessings of the broken in the spirit.

Matthew  5:3 Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

Luke  6:20 And he lifted up his eyes on his disciples, and said, Blessed be ye poor: for yours is the kingdom of God.

Blessed refers to the well being of those who because of their relationship with Christ and His words, receive God’s kingdom, which includes His love, care, salvation and daily presence.

Blessed means happiness of the man who in communion with God, lives the life that is life in deed.

The poor in the spirit are those who recognize their spiritual poverty and felt all their spiritual needs are provided for through Christ vicarious sacrifice

Romans  8:32 He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things?

Several scriptures affirms the poor in the spirit that are blessed.

Matthew  5:3 Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

Matthew  11:28 Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.  11:29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.  11:30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.

Psalms  51:17 The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit: a broken and a contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise.

Isaiah  57:15 For thus saith the high and lofty One that inhabiteth eternity, whose name is Holy; I dwell in the high and holy place, with him also that is of a contrite and humble spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble, and to revive the heart of the contrite ones.

Isaiah  66:2 For all those things hath mine hand made, and all those things have been, saith the LORD: but to this man will I look, even to him that is poor and of a contrite spirit, and trembleth at my word.

The world values contradicts all these, because they wants to Walk in pride and personal dependence outside of God.

To attain this poverty in the spirit, follow Jesus whatever the cost, whatever the consequences.

You will also discover that our said, His earthly ministry was exclusively for the poor in spirit.

Matthew  11:4 Jesus answered and said unto them, Go and shew John again those things which ye do hear and see:  11:5 The blind receive their sight, and the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, and the deaf hear, the dead are raised up, and the poor have the gospel preached to them.

Luke  4:18 The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised,

The blessed Holy Spirit affirmed same.

James  2:5 Hearken, my beloved brethren, Hath not God chosen the poor of this world rich in faith, and heirs of the kingdom which he hath promised to them that love him?

How do you attain it?

James  4:7 Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.  4:8 Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded.  4:9 Be afflicted, and mourn, and weep: let your laughter be turned to mourning, and your joy to heaviness.  4:10 Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up.

The poor in the spirit shall have the kingdom of God.

Matthew  5:3 Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

James  2:5 Hearken, my beloved brethren, Hath not God chosen the poor of this world rich in faith, and heirs of the kingdom which he hath promised to them that love him?

His grace will be sufficient for you in Jesus name.

2 Corinthians  9:8 And God is able to make all grace abound toward you; that ye, always having all sufficiency in all things, may abound to every good work:

Let us pray.
