Holding on to the twenty two doctrines of the Bible, requisite for readiness for the imminent rapture or living eternally with God.
Revelation 2:25 But that which ye have already hold fast till I come.
Revelation 3:10 Because thou hast kept the word of my patience, I also will keep thee from the hour of temptation, which shall come upon all the world, to try them that dwell upon the earth. 3:11 Behold, I come quickly: hold that fast which thou hast, that no man take thy crown.
The blessed Holy Spirit said that for both the minister and the members of the church who desire eternity with God, must live by the totality of the doctrines of the Bible.
1 Timothy 4:16 Take heed unto thyself, and unto the doctrine; continue in them: for in doing this thou shalt both save thyself, and them that hear thee.
No wonder when our Lord was to ascend back to heaven, He gave a firm instructions that His church must be taught the totality of God’s unfailing unchanging infallible eternal words in the Bible.
Matthew 28:20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.
This becomes a compulsion for every Bible believing believers who desire eternity with God or partaking in the imminent rapture.
Revelation 3:10 Because thou hast kept the word of my patience, I also will keep thee from the hour of temptation, which shall come upon all the world, to try them that dwell upon the earth. 3:11 Behold, I come quickly: hold that fast which thou hast, that no man take thy crown.
They are twenty two in numbers.
You as a Bible believing believer, as a matter of compulsion, must be grounded on these twenty two doctrines.
Beloved brethren, we begin to
study these doctrines of the Bible
TODAY BY THE GRACE OF GOD, WE SHALL BE STUDYING IN DETAILS, THE DOCTRINE OF THE HOLY BIBLE.
God’s Word teaches:
That the Holy Bible, consisting of 39 books of the Old Testament and 27 books of the New Testament, is the inspired Word of God.
We take the Bible as the final authority in all matters concerning Christian conduct and work – 2 Timothy 3: 16,17; Proverbs 30: 5,6; Revelation 22:18,19.
2 Timothy 3:16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: 3:17 That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.
Proverbs 30:5 Every word of God is pure: he is a shield unto them that put their trust in him. 30:6 Add thou not unto his words, lest he reprove thee, and thou be found a liar.
Revelation 22:18 For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book: 22:19 And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.
The Holy Bible is the inspired word of God and is the only source of knowledge from the Almighty God to all mankind.
It is the contact point between finite man and the Infinite God; and its prime purpose is to give mankind a revelation of God (2 Timothy 3:15-17).
2 Timothy 3:15 And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. 3:16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: 3:17 That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.
The Bible is severally referred to as the Holy Scriptures (Romans 1:2; 2 Timothy 3:15)
2 Timothy 3:15 And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.
, the oracles of God (Romans 3:2; Hebrews 5:12),
Romans 3:2 Much every way: chiefly, because that unto them were committed the oracles of God.
the Book of the Lord (Isaiah 34:16),
Isaiah 34:16 Seek ye out of the book of the LORD, and read: no one of these shall fail, none shall want her mate: for my mouth it hath commanded, and his spirit it hath gathered them.
the word of God (Mark 7:13),
Mark 7:13 Making the word of God of none effect through your tradition, which ye have delivered: and many such like things do ye.
the word of Christ (Colossians 3:16)
Colossians 3:16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.
and the word of life (Philippians 2:16).
Philippians 2:16 Holding forth the word of life; that I may rejoice in the day of Christ, that I have not run in vain, neither laboured in vain.
It is in two major parts; the Old and the New Testaments.
It consists of 66 books; 39 of which are in the Old Testament, 27 in the New Testament.
The Bible was originally written predominantly in Hebrew and Greek.
The Old Testament was written in Hebrew and Aramaic, while the New Testament was written in the Greek language
. Over 40 authors drawn from disparate generations spanning a period of over 1800 years were
used by God to write the Bible.
Even though their occupations, education and social classes were divergent, their theme was the same as they were inspired by the Holy Ghost (2 Peter 1:20).
2 Peter 1:20 Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation. 1:21 For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.
Important things you need to know about the Bible.
1. The Pre-eminence of the Bible makes it indispensable to all men today.
While other books have limited influence on man, because they are products of finite minds, the Bible which is God’s revelation to man has the solution to every problem today.
Therefore, no man’s education is complete if he is ignorant of the provisions of the Bible.
Isaiah 8:20 To the law and to the testimony: if they speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them.
Psalms 119:89 For ever, O LORD, thy word is settled in heaven.
Matthew 4:4 But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.
Matthew 24:35 Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away.
No Christian can live successfully without an adequate grasp of the Bible, and no Christian minister is really qualified for the ministry of the church of Christ without a thorough knowledge of the Bible
2 Timothy 2:15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
Without a ready knowledge of the Bible, the Christian worker cannot be effective.
2. The central theme of the Bible is CHRIST and HIS WORK OF REDEMPTION (John 20:31; Luke 24:25-27; Revelation 1:1).
John 20:31 But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name.
Luke 24:25 Then he said unto them, O fools, and slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken: 24:26 Ought not Christ to have suffered these things, and to enter into his glory? 24:27 And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, he expounded unto them in all the scriptures the things concerning himself.
Revelation 1:1 The Revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave unto him, to shew unto his servants things which must shortly come to pass; and he sent and signified it by his angel unto his servant John:
Jesus Christ is The Old Testament concealed, and He is The New Testament revealed.
3. To fully understand the Bible and to rightly interpret its messages; you must first receive Jesus Christ as Saviour and have a clear and definite experience of conversion.
4. The Bible has a Ministry to unbelievers as well as to believers too.
To unbelievers, the Bible brings conviction for sin, which leads to repentance and faith in Christ Jesus.
To believers the goals of the Bible are various.
It is to make believers perfect (Psalm 119:9, 11),
Psalms 119:9 Wherewithal shall a young man cleanse his way? by taking heed thereto according to thy word. 119:11 Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.
to reveal the condition of their hearts (Hebrews 4:12; Jeremiah 17: 9, 10),
Hebrews 4:12 For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart..
Jeremiah 17:9 The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it? 17:10 I the LORD search the heart, I try the reins, even to give every man according to his ways, and according to the fruit of his doings.
it is a light to the believers feet (Psalms 119:105; 130),
Psalms 119:105 Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path. 119:130 The entrance of thy words giveth light; it giveth understanding unto the simple.
the food of the soul (Deuteronomy 8:3; John 21:17; psalm 19:10; Matthew 4:4),
Deuteronomy 8:3 And he humbled thee, and suffered thee to hunger, and fed thee with manna, which thou knewest not, neither did thy fathers know; that he might make thee know that man doth not live by bread only, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of the LORD doth man live.
John 21:17 He saith unto him the third time, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me? Peter was grieved because he said unto him the third time, Lovest thou me? And he said unto him, Lord, thou knowest all things; thou knowest that I love thee. Jesus saith unto him, Feed my sheep.
Psalms 19:10 More to be desired are they than gold, yea, than much fine gold: sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb.
Matthew 4:4 But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.
a medicine to the body and soul (Proverbs 4:20-22; Psalms 107:20; Matthew 8:8)
Proverbs 4:20 My son, attend to my words; incline thine ear unto my sayings. 4:21 Let them not depart from thine eyes; keep them in the midst of thine heart. 4:22 For they are life unto those that find them, and health to all their flesh.
Psalms 107:20 He sent his word, and healed them, and delivered them from their destructions.
Matthew 8:8 The centurion answered and said, Lord, I am not worthy that thou shouldest come under my roof: but speak the word only, and my servant shall be healed.
and the sword of the Spirit (Ephesians 6:17; Matthew 4:1-11).
Ephesians 6:17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:
Matthew 4:1 Then was Jesus led up of the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted of the devil. 4:2 And when he had fasted forty days and forty nights, he was afterward an hungred. 4:3 And when the tempter came to him, he said, If thou be the Son of God, command that these stones be made bread. 4:4 But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God. 4:5 Then the devil taketh him up into the holy city, and setteth him on a pinnacle of the temple, 4:6 And saith unto him, If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down: for it is written, He shall give his angels charge concerning thee: and in their hands they shall bear thee up, lest at any time thou dash thy foot against a stone. 4:7 Jesus said unto him, It is written again, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God. 4:8 Again, the devil taketh him up into an exceeding high mountain, and sheweth him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them; 4:9 And saith unto him, All these things will I give thee, if thou wilt fall down and worship me. 4:10 Then saith Jesus unto him, Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve. 4:11 Then the devil leaveth him, and, behold, angels came and ministered unto him.
It is a mirror to reflect (James 1:23);
James 1:23 For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass:
a hammer to convict, and a fire to refine (Jeremiah 23:29);
Jeremiah 23:29 Is not my word like as a fire? saith the LORD; and like a hammer that breaketh the rock in pieces?
seed to multiply (1 Peter 1:23);
1 Peter 1:23 Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever.
leaver to cleanse (Ephesians 5:26; John 15:3);
Ephesians 5:26 That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word,
John 15:3 Now ye are clean through the word which I have spoken unto you.
rain and snow to refresh (Isaiah 55:10);
Isaiah 55:10 For as the rain cometh down, and the snow from heaven, and returneth not thither, but watereth the earth, and maketh it bring forth and bud, that it may give seed to the sower, and bread to the eater
gold to enrich (Psalm 19:7-10
Psalms 19:7 The law of the LORD is perfect, converting the soul: the testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple. 19:8 The statutes of the LORD are right, rejoicing the heart: the commandment of the LORD is pure, enlightening the eyes. 19:9 The fear of the LORD is clean, enduring for ever: the judgments of the LORD are true and righteous altogether. 19:10 More to be desired are they than gold, yea, than much fine gold: sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb.
); and power to create life and faith (1 Peter 1:23; Romans 10:17).
Romans 10:17 So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.
1 Peter 1:23 Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever.
5. The Bible is God’s inspired revelation of the origin and destiny of all things.
It is the power of God unto eternal salvation and it is the source of present help to the body, soul, and spirit (Romans 1:16; John 15:7).
Romans 1:16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.
John 15:7 If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you.
It is God’s will and testament to man in all ages, revealing His plan for man here and now and in the next life.
It is the record of God’s dealing with men; past, present and future.
It contains God’s message of eternal salvation to all who believe in Christ and of eternal damnation to those who rebel against the gospel (John 3:18,36).
John 3:18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. 3:36 He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him.
The purpose of the Bible then is to reveal God to man, reveal man’s need of God and show man the way to God.
Man by searching cannot find God except God makes Himself known to him (Job 11:7).
Job 11:7 Canst thou by searching find out God? canst thou find out the Almighty unto perfection?
The Bible also reveals to man how to live, and through the fulfillment of its prophecies all human needs are met.
We receive salvation, sanctification, Holy Ghost baptism, healing, deliverance, protection, etc.
For you to profit maximally from the study of the Bible, all hindrances to spiritual receptivity must be removed:
such as hardened heart (Matthew 13:3-6, 18-21),
Matthew 13:3 And he spake many things unto them in parables, saying, Behold, a sower went forth to sow; 13:4 And when he sowed, some seeds fell by the way side, and the fowls came and devoured them up: 13:5 Some fell upon stony places, where they had not much earth: and forthwith they sprung up, because they had no deepness of earth:
Matthew 13:18 Hear ye therefore the parable of the sower. 13:19 When any one heareth the word of the kingdom, and understandeth it not, then cometh the wicked one, and catcheth away that which was sown in his heart. This is he which received seed by the way side. 13:20 But he that received the seed into stony places, the same is he that heareth the word, and anon with joy receiveth it; 13:21 Yet hath he not root in himself, but dureth for a while: for when tribulation or persecution ariseth because of the word, by and by he is offended.
double-mindedness (James 1:8; Mark 4:15- 17),
James 1:8 A double minded man is unstable in all his ways.
Mark 4:15 And these are they by the way side, where the word is sown; but when they have heard, Satan cometh immediately, and taketh away the word that was sown in their hearts. 4:16 And these are they likewise which are sown on stony ground; who, when they have heard the word, immediately receive it with gladness; 4:17 And have no root in themselves, and so endure but for a time: afterward, when affliction or persecution ariseth for the word’s sake, immediately they are offended.
pride (Deuteronomy 8:11-14; Psalm 101:5; Proverbs 18:12)
Deuteronomy 8:11 Beware that thou forget not the LORD thy God, in not keeping his commandments, and his judgments, and his statutes, which I command thee this day: 8:12 Lest when thou hast eaten and art full, and hast built goodly houses, and dwelt therein; 8:13 And when thy herds and thy flocks multiply, and thy silver and thy gold is multiplied, and all that thou hast is multiplied; 8:14 Then thine heart be lifted up, and thou forget the LORD thy God, which brought thee forth out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage;
Psalms 101:5 Whoso privily slandereth his neighbour, him will I cut off: him that hath an high look and a proud heart will not I suffer.
, carnality (1 Corinthians 3:1-5) and unbelief (Matthew 13:58).
1 Corinthians 3:1 And I, brethren, could not speak unto you as unto spiritual, but as unto carnal, even as unto babes in Christ. 3:2 I have fed you with milk, and not with meat: for hitherto ye were not able to bear it, neither yet now are ye able. 3:3 For ye are yet carnal: for whereas there is among you envying, and strife, and divisions, are ye not carnal, and walk as men? 3:4 For while one saith, I am of Paul; and another, I am of Apollos; are ye not carnal? 3:5 Who then is Paul, and who is Apollos, but ministers by whom ye believed, even as the Lord gave to every man?
Matthew 13:58 And he did not many mighty works there because of their unbelief.
Every believer in the church today can benefit from the hidden treasures in the Bible.
But this would require sacrifices on our part.
Treasures are not found except by searching or digging earnestly.
Likewise, deep Bible truths need to be sought for and in doing this we will discover Christ the more (Colossians 2:9; John 5:39).
Colossians 2:9 For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily.
John 5:39 Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me.
Certain spiritual preparations are required from believers in order to discover these treasures that would make them develop into the fullness of the stature of Christ.
There must be earnest love for the truth for its own sake (Psalm 119:40,47,54,72,103);
Psalms 119:40 Behold, I have longed after thy precepts: quicken me in thy righteousness. 119:47 And I will delight myself in thy commandments, which I have loved. 119:54 Thy statutes have been my songs in the house of my pilgrimage. 119:72 The law of thy mouth is better unto me than thousands of gold and silver. 119:103 How sweet are thy words unto my taste! yea, sweeter than honey to my mouth!
supreme love for God (Matthew 22:37; Deuteronomy 30:6; Psalm 73:25);
Matthew 22:37 Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.
Deuteronomy 30:6 And the LORD thy God will circumcise thine heart, and the heart of thy seed, to love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, that thou mayest live.
Psalms 73:25 Whom have I in heaven but thee? and there is none upon earth that I desire beside thee.
and an intense desire to know more of Him (Psalm 42:1,2; 63:1).
Psalms 42:1 As the hart panteth after the water brooks, so panteth my soul after thee, O God. 42:2 My soul thirsteth for God, for the living God: when shall I come and appear before God?
Psalms 63:1 O God, thou art my God; early will I seek thee: my soul thirsteth for thee, my flesh longeth for thee in a dry and thirsty land, where no water is;
Also there should be a strong desire to make Him known to others (Proverbs 11:24-26; Romans 9:1-3),
Proverbs 11:24 There is that scattereth, and yet increaseth; and there is that withholdeth more than is meet, but it tendeth to poverty. 11:25 The liberal soul shall be made fat: and he that watereth shall be watered also himself. 11:26 He that withholdeth corn, the people shall curse him: but blessing shall be upon the head of him that selleth it.
Romans 9:1 I say the truth in Christ, I lie not, my conscience also bearing me witness in the Holy Ghost, 9:2 That I have great heaviness and continual sorrow in my heart. 9:3 For I could wish that myself were accursed from Christ for my brethren, my kinsmen according to the flesh:
willingness to make personal sacrifice to study (Matthew 13:44-46; 12:42),
Matthew 13:44 Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto treasure hid in a field; the which when a man hath found, he hideth, and for joy thereof goeth and selleth all that he hath, and buyeth that field. 13:45 Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto a merchant man, seeking goodly pearls: 13:46 Who, when he had found one pearl of great price, went and sold all that he had, and bought it.
Matthew 12:42 The queen of the south shall rise up in the judgment with this generation, and shall condemn it: for she came from the uttermost parts of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon; and, behold, a greater than Solomon is here.
a sense of ignorance and dependence upon divine teaching and willingness to practice as far as you learn (Psalm119: 60,101,106; James 1:22-25; Ezra 7:10).
Psalms 119:60 I made haste, and delayed not to keep thy commandments. 119:101 I have refrained my feet from every evil way, that I might keep thy word. 119:106 I have sworn, and I will perform it, that I will keep thy righteous judgments.
James 1:22 But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves. 1:23 For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass: 1:24 For he beholdeth himself, and goeth his way, and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was. 1:25 But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed.
Ezra 7:10 For Ezra had prepared his heart to seek the law of the LORD, and to do it, and to teach in Israel statutes and judgments.
Other requirements are a fixed purpose to know, and do the whole truth (Psalm 119:63; 57:7; 108:1)
Psalms 119:63 I am a companion of all them that fear thee, and of them that keep thy precepts.
Psalms 57:7 My heart is fixed, O God, my heart is fixed: I will sing and give praise.
Psalms 108:1 O God, my heart is fixed; I will sing and give praise, even with my glory.
and a cultivating state of mind that will not be diverted to make provision for the flesh (Romans 13:14; Matthew 26:41).
Romans 13:13 Let us walk honestly, as in the day; not in rioting and drunkenness, not in chambering and wantonness, not in strife and envying.
Matthew 26:41 Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.
Above all, you need also a regular habit of prayer, resignation to the whole will of God and His word that will make you discover the treasures hidden in the Bible.
WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO WITH THE REVELATION OF THE HOLY SCRIPTURES THAT YOU HAVE NOW RECEIVED.
THREE THINGS.
1. Willingness and readiness to be obedient to the word.
Exodus 24:7 And he took the book of the covenant, and read in the audience of the people: and they said, All that the LORD hath said will we do, and be obedient.
2. Delightful hearing of it at all times.
1Sa 3:9
Therefore Eli said unto Samuel, Go, lie down: and it shall be, if he call thee, that thou shalt say, Speak, Lord; for thy servant heareth. So Samuel went and lay down in his place.
3. Regulate your life by what it says and let it be the final authority for all your decisions in all things and at all times, till Christ comes.
Matthew 4:4 But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.
LISTENING TO WHAT JESUS PROMISED YOU FOR THIS WORTHWHILE DECISIONS.
Revelation 3:10 Because thou hast kept the word of my patience, I also will keep thee from the hour of temptation, which shall come upon all the world, to try them that dwell upon the earth. 3:11 Behold, I come quickly: hold that fast which thou hast, that no man take thy crown.
You are going to be part of the imminent rapture and you shall have a crown at eternity.
Let us pray.

The inspiration of the authors can be attested to by some peculiar characteristics of the Bible, which are not found in any other book written by man. Such characteristics include its wonderful unity despite the fact that the authors lived in different ages; its versatility as it meets the needs of all people irrespective of race and language (Matthew 4:4). Its superiority to other books, the influence on individuals and nations; its preservation over the centuries, its fulfilled prophecies (Isaiah 7:4; Ezekiel 36:19; 2 Chronicles 7:19,20) and its perfection (Psalms 19:7; James 1:25).
