Biblical Pathway to God’s honour. ( Click here for more details. )

John  5:43 I am come in my Father’s name, and ye receive me not: if another shall come in his own name, him ye will receive.  5:44 How can ye believe, which receive honour one of another, and seek not the honour that cometh from God only?

Beloved Brethren, Jesus our Lord again showed the undoing of the elders of the Jews in Bible days.

They sought honour of men and themselves and not the honour that God gives.

An example of that was what brought a shameful end to king Herod.  The honour and praise of men.

Acts  12:1 Now about that time Herod the king stretched forth his hands to vex certain of the church.  12:2 And he killed James the brother of John with the sword.  12:3 And because he saw it pleased the Jews, he proceeded further to take Peter also. (Then were the days of unleavened bread.)

He was applauded for killing James and wanted to get more honour, he tried to arrest Peter..  But God stopped him.

Then one day, he was talking and he was applauded again.  He welcome the applaud.  However, he incurred the wrath of God and was smitten.

12:20 And Herod was highly displeased with them of Tyre and Sidon: but they came with one accord to him, and, having made Blastus the king’s chamberlain their friend, desired peace; because their country was nourished by the king’s country.  12:21 And upon a set day Herod, arrayed in royal apparel, sat upon his throne, and made an oration unto them.  12:22 And the people gave a shout, saying, It is the voice of a god, and not of a man.  12:23 And immediately the angel of the Lord smote him, because he gave not God the glory: and he was eaten of worms, and gave up the ghost.

Before anyone could blame king Herod, let such people examine themselves.

Why are people inside and outside of the church sinning against God today?

It is because they are looking for honour and recognition of men.

Sister, why do you love worldliness?  Because you want to be beautiful before men, even though, you are living in outright disobedience to God.

Why are people inside the church, giving bribe and taking bribe. To be successful before men at their own peril.

But saints of old and our Lord Jesus Christ in particular, sought the honour of God, even though it brought persecution and rejection to Him.

Jesus Christ our Lord.

John  8:49 Jesus answered, I have not a devil; but I honour my Father, and ye do dishonour me.

John  13:31 Therefore, when he was gone out, Jesus said, Now is the Son of man glorified, and God is glorified in him.  13:32 If God be glorified in him, God shall also glorify him in himself, and shall straightway glorify him.

John  17:4 I have glorified thee on the earth: I have finished the work which thou gavest me to do.  17:5 And now, O Father, glorify thou me with thine own self with the glory which I had with thee before the world was.

Saints of old honouring God.

Psalms  18:20 The LORD rewarded me according to my righteousness; according to the cleanness of my hands hath he recompensed me.

Psalms  50:23 Whoso offereth praise glorifieth me: and to him that ordereth his conversation aright will I shew the salvation of God.

Daniel  4:34 And at the end of the days I Nebuchadnezzar lifted up mine eyes unto heaven, and mine understanding returned unto me, and I blessed the most High, and I praised and honoured him that liveth for ever, whose dominion is an everlasting dominion, and his kingdom is from generation to generation:

1 Peter  1:6 Wherein ye greatly rejoice, though now for a season, if need be, ye are in heaviness through manifold temptations:  1:7 That the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perisheth, though it be tried with fire, might be found unto praise and honour and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ:

In fact both in the old and new testaments, all humanity are commanded to honour God the Father and Christ Jesus our Lord.

Malachi  1:6 A son honoureth his father, and a servant his master: if then I be a father, where is mine honour? and if I be a master, where is my fear? saith the LORD of hosts unto you, O priests, that despise my name. And ye say, Wherein have we despised thy name?

John  5:23 That all men should honour the Son, even as they honour the Father. He that honoureth not the Son honoureth not the Father which hath sent him.

The Bible reveals that, for anyone to earn honour from God, such must first honour God in all thing’s.

1 Samuel  2:30 Wherefore the LORD God of Israel saith, I said indeed that thy house, and the house of thy father, should walk before me for ever: but now the LORD saith, Be it far from me; for them that honour me I will honour, and they that despise me shall be lightly esteemed.

In addition, the Bible further reveals from both old and new testaments, how saints can earn honour from God.

Old

Psalms  91:14 Because he hath set his love upon me, therefore will I deliver him: I will set him on high, because he hath known my name.  91:15 He shall call upon me, and I will answer him: I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him, and honour him

Proverbs  13:18 Poverty and shame shall be to him that refuseth instruction: but he that regardeth reproof shall be honoured.

Proverbs  27:18 Whoso keepeth the fig tree shall eat the fruit thereof: so he that waiteth on his master shall be honoured.

New.

John  12:26 If any man serve me, let him follow me; and where I am, there shall also my servant be: if any man serve me, him will my Father honour.

For such people and our Lord in particular, they received honour of God here and hereafter..

Listen to the honour our Lord received from His Father, here and hereafter.

Matthew  3:17 And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.

Matthew  17:5 While he yet spake, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them: and behold a voice out of the cloud, which said, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased; hear ye him.

Philippians  2:9 Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name:  2:10 That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth;  2:11 And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

Hebrews  12:2 Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.

You will recount that Abraham, Joseph, Samuel, king David, Daniel, Queen Esther, apostle Peter, Paul and many others received honour and promotion here on earth and they lived eternally with God after their lives.

Abraham.

Isaiah  51:1 Hearken to me, ye that follow after righteousness, ye that seek the LORD: look unto the rock whence ye are hewn, and to the hole of the pit whence ye are digged.  51:2 Look unto Abraham your father, and unto Sarah that bare you: for I called him alone, and blessed him, and increased him.

Joseph

Genesis  41:39 And Pharaoh said unto Joseph, Forasmuch as God hath shewed thee all this, there is none so discreet and wise as thou art:  41:40 Thou shalt be over my house, and according unto thy word shall all my people be ruled: only in the throne will I be greater than thou.  41:41 And Pharaoh said unto Joseph, See, I have set thee over all the land of Egypt.  41:42 And Pharaoh took off his ring from his hand, and put it upon Joseph’s hand, and arrayed him in vestures of fine linen, and put a gold chain about his neck;  41:43 And he made him to ride in the second chariot which he had; and they cried before him, Bow the knee: and he made him ruler over all the land of Egypt.  41:44 And Pharaoh said unto Joseph, I am Pharaoh, and without thee shall no man lift up his hand or foot in all the land of Egypt.

Samuel.

1 Samuel  3:19 And Samuel grew, and the LORD was with him, and did let none of his words fall to the ground.  3:20 And all Israel from Dan even to Beersheba knew that Samuel was established to be a prophet of the LORD.  3:21 And the LORD appeared again in Shiloh: for the LORD revealed himself to Samuel in Shiloh by the word of the LORD.

King David.

1 Samuel 13:14
But now thy kingdom shall not continue: the LORD hath sought him a man after his own heart, and the LORD hath commanded him to be captain over his people, because thou hast not kept that which the LORD commanded thee.

Acts 13:22
And when he had removed him, he raised up unto them David to be their king; to whom also he gave testimony, and said, I have found David the son of Jesse, a man after mine own heart, which shall fulfil all my will.

Daniel

Daniel 9:23
At the beginning of thy supplications the commandment came forth, and I am come to shew thee; for thou art greatly beloved: therefore understand the matter, and consider the vision.

Daniel 10:11
And he said unto me, O Daniel, a man greatly beloved, understand the words that I speak unto thee, and stand upright: for unto thee am I now sent. And when he had spoken this word unto me, I stood trembling.

Daniel 10:19
And said, O man greatly beloved, fear not: peace be unto thee, be strong, yea, be strong. And when he had spoken unto me, I was strengthened, and said, Let my lord speak; for thou hast strengthened me.

Queen Esther.

Esther 2:15
Now when the turn of Esther, the daughter of Abihail the uncle of Mordecai, who had taken her for his daughter, was come to go in unto the king, she required nothing but what Hegai the king’s chamberlain, the keeper of the women, appointed. And Esther obtained favour in the sight of all them that looked upon her.

Esther 2:17
And the king loved Esther above all the women, and she obtained grace and favour in his sight more than all the virgins; so that he set the royal crown upon her head, and made her queen instead of Vashti.

Esther 5:2
And it was so, when the king saw Esther the queen standing in the court, that she obtained favour in his sight: and the king held out to Esther the golden sceptre that was in his hand. So Esther drew near, and touched the top of the sceptre.

Apostle Peter

Acts  5:14 And believers were the more added to the Lord, multitudes both of men and women.)  5:15 Insomuch that they brought forth the sick into the streets, and laid them on beds and couches, that at the least the shadow of Peter passing by might overshadow some of them.  5:16 There came also a multitude out of the cities round about unto Jerusalem, bringing sick folks, and them which were vexed with unclean spirits: and they were healed every one.

Acts  19:10 And this continued by the space of two years; so that all they which dwelt in Asia heard the word of the Lord Jesus, both Jews and Greeks.  19:11 And God wrought special miracles by the hands of Paul:  19:12 So that from his body were brought unto the sick handkerchiefs or aprons, and the diseases departed from them, and the evil spirits went out of them.

All of these saints are in eternity with God.

Hebrews  11:13 These all died in faith, not having received the promises, but having seen them afar off, and were persuaded of them, and embraced them, and confessed that they were strangers and pilgrims on the earth.  11:14 For they that say such things declare plainly that they seek a country.  11:15 And truly, if they had been mindful of that country from whence they came out, they might have had opportunity to have returned.  11:16 But now they desire a better country, that is, an heavenly: wherefore God is not ashamed to be called their God: for he hath prepared for them a city.

Beloved Brethren you also should desire honour of God, by honouring Him through a life of wholehearted obedience in all thing’s and at all times and He will honour you here and hereafter in Jesus name.

1 Samuel  2:30 Wherefore the LORD God of Israel saith, I said indeed that thy house, and the house of thy father, should walk before me for ever: but now the LORD saith, Be it far from me; for them that honour me I will honour, and they that despise me shall be lightly esteemed.
