Even though there are controversy about tithe, we encourage followers of Christ to give extensively to the Gospel and one name to classify this is TITHE
The Bible indicates that God’s people followed the law of tithing anciently; through modern prophets, God restored this law once again to bless His children. To fulfill this commandment, Church members give one-tenth of their income to the Lord through His Church. These funds are used to build up the Church and further the work of the Lord throughout the world.
“Tithing is the great equitable law, for no matter how rich or poor we are, all of us pay the same one-tenth of our increase annually and all of us receive blessings so great ‘that there shall not be room enough to receive [them]’ (Malachi 3:10).”
Many Christians believe that this principle of giving one-tenth should be carried over to the New Testament in giving to the church and other Christian organizations. Mr. Graham would fit into this category.
He has said, “We have found in our own home, as have thousands of others, that God’s blessing upon the nine-tenths, when we tithe, helps it to go farther than ten-tenths without His blessing.”
However, even then the question as to whether to tithe from one’s net or gross income is not answered in Scripture, nor is the question of whether to give it all to the local church or to include other ministries. We feel that such decisions should be based on personal conviction.
One very question an individual asks is why should a Christian/believer pay tithe? the answers are not far- fetched, and they are;
It is a divine command (compulsory).
It is scriptural (biblical).
it provokes God’s blessings of abundance and sufficiency.
it brings divine protection.
it gives peace of mind.
it gives you a standing before God to approach His throne with boldness and more importantly, as sons and daughters of Abraham by faith we must emulate him (our spiritual father of faith) by paying our tithes as he did.
Who and where do you pay your tithe to?
The tithe is paid to the Church, so as to carry out the various activities the church might be in need of. Majorly, it is used to run the church.
“Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the LORD of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive It (Mal. 3:10 KJV)”.
Whenever we default in paying our tithes or delay in doing so? The following happens to such individual; We open the door to devourers, we lose spiritual and divine protection, we lose our blessings of abundance and sufficiency, we pay an extra money on top of the tithe, such individual will pay one – fifth (1/5) of the tithe in addition to the tithe for not paying your tithe accurately, accordingly and punctually.
In conclusion, tithing should be a part of the believer’s life. Give joyfully, give thankfully and excel in the grace of giving, but never feel pressured to give. It’s never about the amount you give.
Tithing is about the percentage you give, and generous giving is about the joy in your heart to give! I pray that you would discover the joy of giving and trust God in this area of your life. If you do I guarantee it will help your faith grow and you will be glad you did!
