Study 11. The church of Pergamus.

Revelation  2:12 And to the angel of the church in Pergamos write; These things saith he which hath the sharp sword with two edges;  2:13 I know thy works, and where thou dwellest, even where Satan’s seat is: and thou holdest fast my name, and hast not denied my faith, even in those days wherein Antipas was my faithful martyr, who was slain among you, where Satan dwelleth.  2:14 But I have a few things against thee, because thou hast there them that hold the doctrine of Balaam, who taught Balac to cast a stumblingblock before the children of Israel, to eat things sacrificed unto idols, and to commit fornication.  2:15 So hast thou also them that hold the doctrine of the Nicolaitanes, which thing I hate.  2:16 Repent; or else I will come unto thee quickly, and will fight against them with the sword of my mouth.  2:17 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the hidden manna, and will give him a white stone, and in the stone a new name written, which no man knoweth saving he that receiveth it.

THIS IS THE STUDY OF THE THIRD CHURCH.

THE MESSAGE WAS SENT BY JESUS TO THE ANGEL OF THE CHURCH,. AND JESUS INTRODUCED HIMSELF.

MINISTERS AND LEADERS OF THE CHURCH OF CHRIST OF ALL AGES MUST HAVE THE CHARACTERISTIC OF ANGELS.

Psalms  103:20 Bless the LORD, ye his angels, that excel in strength, that do his commandments, hearkening unto the voice of his word.

ANGELS OF GOD DO THE COMMANDMENTS OF GOD AND ALWAYS HARKENING TO HIS VOICE OF COMMAND AT ALL TIMES.

THIS IS GOD’S EXPECTATIONS FOR ALL HIS CHURCH LEADERS .

 Matthew 25:31

When the Son of man shall come in his glory, and all the holy angels with him, then shall he sit upon the throne of his glory:

THE ANGELS OF GOD ARE HOLY LIKE GOD.

LEADERS OF ALL CHURCHES OF ALL AGES MUST BE BIBLICALLY HOLY LIKE GOD.

MEMBERS OF THE CHURCH LIKE THE LEADERS ARE TO BE HOLY TOO,. BECAUSE JESUS COMMISSIONED ALL OF US AS HIS LEADERS TO BE OCCUPIED TILL HE COMES.

 Luke  19:13 And he called his ten servants, and delivered them ten pounds, and said unto them, Occupy till I come.

SO ALL OF US LEADERS AND EVERYONE IN THE CHURCH MUST BE HOLY, LIKE GOD.

1 Peter  1:15 But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation;  1:16 Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy.

Luke  1:75 In holiness and righteousness before him, all the days of our life.

Hebrews  12:14 Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord:

IF LEADERS AND MEMBERS   IN THE CHURCH OF GOD WILL SEE HIM AT THE END OF TIME, THEY MUST BE HOLY.

GRACE FOR YOU TO BE HOLY,  RECEIVE IN JESUS NAME.

1. INTRODUCTION OF JESUS.

Revelation  2:12 And to the angel of the church in Pergamos write; These things saith he which hath the sharp sword with two edges;  

JESUS HAD SWORD IN HIS MOUTH.  

Revelation  1:16 And he had in his right hand seven stars: and out of his mouth went a sharp twoedged sword: and his countenance was as the sun shineth in his strength.

WHAT DOES HE USE IT FOR?

Revelation  2:16 Repent; or else I will come unto thee quickly, and will fight against them with the sword of my mouth.

Revelation  19:15 And out of his mouth goeth a sharp sword, that with it he should smite the nations: and he shall rule them with a rod of iron: and he treadeth the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God.  19:21 And the remnant were slain with the sword of him that sat upon the horse, which sword proceeded out of his mouth: and all the fowls were filled with their flesh.

Isaiah  11:4 But with righteousness shall he judge the poor, and reprove with equity for the meek of the earth: and he shall smite the earth with the rod of his mouth, and with the breath of his lips shall he slay the wicked.

HE USE THE SWORD FOR JUDGEMENT.  WHAT IS THIS SWORD

Hebrews  4:12 For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

THE SWORD IS THE WORD OF GOD WHICH WILL DETERMINE WHERE ALL OF US SHALL SPEND ETERNITY. 

John  12:46 I am come a light into the world, that whosoever believeth on me should not abide in darkness.  12:47 And if any man hear my words, and believe not, I judge him not: for I came not to judge the world, but to save the world.  12:48 He that rejecteth me, and receiveth not my words, hath one that judgeth him: the word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day.

2. JESUS KNOWS EVERYTHING ALL OF US ARE DOING IN THE CHURCH  AND SHALL REWARD US ACCORDINGLY AT THE END OF TIME.

Revelation  2:13 I know thy works, and where thou dwellest, even where Satan’s seat is: and thou holdest fast my name, and hast not denied my faith, even in those days wherein Antipas was my faithful martyr, who was slain among you, where Satan dwelleth.  

Revelation  22:11 He that is unjust, let him be unjust still: and he which is filthy, let him be filthy still: and he that is righteous, let him be righteous still: and he that is holy, let him be holy still.  22:12 And, behold, I come quickly; and my reward is with me, to give every man according as his work shall be.

Ecclesiastes  12:13 Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.  12:14 For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil.

THIS CHURCH WAS ALSO FACING SEVERE PERSECUTIONS BECAUSE IT WAS LOCATED WHERE SATAN, THE  IDOL OF CEASER EMPROR OF ROME WAS BUILT AND WORSHIPPED. 

BECAUSE THEY REFUSED TO WORSHIP THE IDOL, ONE OF THEM WAS MARTYRED. 

BUT THEN, THEY REMAINED FAITHFUL.  THEY DID NOT ALLOW IT TO AFFECT THEM NEGATIVELY.

3.  BUT THEN, THEY WERE LIVING IN COMPROMISE.

 Revelation  2:14 But I have a few things against thee, because thou hast there them that hold the doctrine of Balaam, who taught Balac to cast a stumblingblock before the children of Israel, to eat things sacrificed unto idols, and to commit fornication.  2:15 So hast thou also them that hold the doctrine of the Nicolaitanes, which thing I hate.  

THEY WERE PERMITTING FALSE TEACHINGS AND FALSE TEACHERS IN THEIR MIDST AND JESUS WAS DISPLEASED.

THE QUESTION IS,  ARE YOU TOO LIVING IN COMPROMISE AND HYPOCRISY?

ARE YOU COMMITTING SECRET SIN, LIKE JUDAS AND GEHAZI.  SEE WHAT SHALL HAPPEN AS CONSEQUENCES.

Exodus  32:33 And the LORD said unto Moses, Whosoever hath sinned against me, him will I blot out of my book.

Isaiah  33:14 The sinners in Zion are afraid; fearfulness hath surprised the hypocrites. Who among us shall dwell with the devouring fire? who among us shall dwell with everlasting burnings?

Revelation  20:15 And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.

4. JESUS ENCOURAGED THEM TO REPENT.

Revelation  2:16 Repent; or else I will come unto thee quickly, and will fight against them with the sword of my mouth.  

WHAT HAPPENS WHEN WE REPENT ?

Acts  3:19 Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord;

Ezekiel  33:14 Again, when I say unto the wicked, Thou shalt surely die; if he turn from his sin, and do that which is lawful and right;  33:15 If the wicked restore the pledge, give again that he had robbed, walk in the statutes of life, without committing iniquity; he shall surely live, he shall not die.  33:16 None of his sins that he hath committed shall be mentioned unto him: he hath done that which is lawful and right; he shall surely live.

BUT WHAT IF ANYONE REFUSE TO REPENT, WHAT HAPPENS?

Luke  13:3 I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish.  13:5 I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish.

GOD SHALL OVERLOOK OUR SINS WHEN WE REPENT GENUINELY.

Acts  17:30 And the times of this ignorance God winked at; but now commandeth all men every where to repent:  17:31 Because he hath appointed a day, in the which he will judge the world in righteousness by that man whom he hath ordained; whereof he hath given assurance unto all men, in that he hath raised him from the dead.

 5.  JESUS PROMISED THEM , REWARD WHEN THEY  REPENT.

Revelation  2:17 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the hidden manna, and will give him a white stone, and in the stone a new name written, which no man knoweth saving he that receiveth it.

MANNA IS THE FOOD OF THE ANGELS.

Exodus 16:15

And when the children of Israel saw it, they said one to another, It is manna: for they wist not what it was. And Moses said unto them, This is the bread which the LORD hath given you to eat.

Exodus 16:31

And the house of Israel called the name thereof Manna: and it was like coriander seed, white; and the taste of it was like wafers made with honey.

Exodus 16:35

And the children of Israel did eat manna forty years, until they came to a land inhabited; they did eat manna, until they came unto the borders of the land of Canaan.

IT MEANS YOU WE SHALL DINE WITH GOD IN HEAVEN.
