Dearly beloved brethren, there is this virtue of the godly that you really can find again today in Christ Church, globally.

It is called mourning for sin of others or self. See the following scriptures of people mourning for the sins of others or their own sins.

Matthew 5:4 Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted.

Ezra the priest

Ezra 10:1-5. Now when Ezra had prayed, and when he had confessed, weeping and casting himself down before the house of God, there assembled unto him out of Israel a very great congregation of men and women and children: for the people wept very sore. 2 And Shechaniah the son of Jehiel, one of the sons of Elam, answered and said unto Ezra, We have trespassed against our God, and have taken strange wives of the people of the land: yet now there is hope in Israel concerning this thing. 3 Now therefore let us make a covenant with our God to put away all the wives, and such as are born of them, according to the counsel of my lord, and of those that tremble at the commandment of our God; and let it be done according to the law. 4 Arise; for this matter belongeth unto thee: we also will be with thee: be of good courage, and do it. 5 Then arose Ezra, and made the chief priests, the Levites, and all Israel, to swear that they should do according to this word. And they sware.

The people of Judah

Nehemiah 8:9 And Nehemiah, which is the Tirshatha, and Ezra the priest the scribe, and the Levites that taught the people, said unto all the people, This day is holy unto the LORD your God; mourn not, nor weep. For all the people wept, when they heard the words of the law.

Jeremiah the prophet

Jer 13:15 — Jer 13:17. Hear ye, and give ear; be not proud: for the LORD hath spoken. 16 Give glory to the LORD your God, before he cause darkness, and before your feet stumble upon the dark mountains, and, while ye look for light, he turn it into the shadow of death, and make it gross darkness. 17 But if ye will not hear it, my soul shall weep in secret places for your pride; and mine eye shall weep sore, and run down with tears, because the LORD’s flock is carried away captive.

Luk 19:41 And when he was come near, he beheld the city, and wept over it,

Apostle Peter

Mat 26:75 And Peter remembered the word of Jesus, which said unto him, Before the cock crow, thou shalt deny me thrice. And he went out, and wept bitterly.

Beloved brethren, do you mourn when you have sinned against the Lord and the Spirit of the Lord convicted you?

Do you mourn and weep when you see others sinning with impunity , knowing fully the consequences of what they are doing?

This was the plight of king David, when he saw others sinning without the fear of God. See it yourself.

Rivers of waters [ Streams of tears ] run down mine eyes, because they keep not thy law [ disobey your instructions ] – Psalms 119:136

See this same passage in other Bible version’s.

NLT
Psalms 119:136 Rivers of tears gush from my eyes because people disobey your instructions.

AMP BIBLE
Psalm 119:136 Streams of water run down my eyes, because men do not keep Your law [they hear it not, nor receive it, love it, or obey it].

See this same passage amplified.

Here we have David in sorrow. 1. It is a great sorrow, to such a degree that he weeps rivers of tears. Commonly, where there is a gracious heart, there is a weeping eye, in conformity to Christ, who was a man of sorrows and acquainted with grief. David had prayed for comfort in God’s favour (Psalms 119:135), now he pleads that he was qualified for that comfort, and had need of it, for he was one of those that mourned in Zion, and those that do so shall be comforted, Isaiah 61:3. 2. It is godly sorrow. He wept not for his troubles, though they were many, but for the dishonour done to God: Because they keep not thy law, either because my eyes keep not thy law, so some (the eye is the inlet and outlet of a great deal of sin, and therefore it ought to be a weeping eye), or, rather, they, that is, those about me, Psalms 119:139. Note, The sins of sinners are the sorrows of saints. We must mourn for that which we cannot mend.

Beloved, because you desire to live with God eternally, you must be mourning for your sins and that of others.

Isaiah 66:2 For all those things hath mine hand made, and all those things have been, saith the LORD: but to this man will I look, even to him that is poor and of a contrite spirit, and trembleth at my word.
Psalms 51:17 The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit: a broken and a contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise.
