STUDYING JESUS FROM THE BIBLE. LEV – THE GREAT HIGH PRIEST Tue 22 th Oct 2013 The bible contain sixty six books. From Genesis to Revelation all of them talks about Jesus. Our Lord commanded us to search the scriptures and we will find it so. Jhn 5: 39 Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me. The book of Leviticus reveals Jesus as OUR GREAT HIGH PRIEST. Lev 21:10.
Leviticus 21:10 And he that is the high priest among his brethren, upon whose head the anointing oil was poured, and that is consecrated to put on the garments, shall not uncover his head, nor rend his clothes;
Aaron was anointed the first high Priest And made known the work of the office. Lev 8: 12, 9:22.
Leviticus 8:12 And he poured of the anointing oil upon Aaron’s head, and anointed him, to sanctify him.
Leviticus 9:22 And Aaron lifted up his hand toward the people, and blessed them, and came down from offering of the sin offering, and the burnt offering, and peace offerings.
The work done by Aaron in the Old Testament was confirmed in the New Testament. Heb 5:1, 4.
Hebrews 5:1 For every high priest taken from among men is ordained for men in things pertaining to God, that he may offer both gifts and sacrifices for sins: 5:4 And no man taketh this honour unto himself, but he that is called of God, as was Aaron.
However, Jesus stood out as our great High Priest, because He needed no atonement for sin, like the Old Testament high priests. He was righteous and holy. Heb 9:25-26,1:8-9.
Hebrews 1:8 But unto the Son he saith, Thy throne, O God, is for ever and ever: a sceptre of righteousness is the sceptre of thy kingdom. 1:9 Thou hast loved righteousness, and hated iniquity; therefore God, even thy God, hath anointed thee with the oil of gladness above thy fellows.
Hebrews 9:25 Nor yet that he should offer himself often, as the high priest entereth into the holy place every year with blood of others; 9:26 For then must he often have suffered since the foundation of the world: but now once in the end of the world hath he appeared to put away sin by the sacrifice of himself.
1. RIGHTEOUS JESUS, OUR GREAT HIGH PRIEST. The book of Hebrews confirmed our Lord from different passages as the great high priest. HEB 2: 17-18, 4:14-15, 5: 5-6, 6:20, 7:25-26 8:1, 9: 11-12, 10: 19-22,
Hebrews 2:17 Wherefore in all things it behoved him to be made like unto his brethren, that he might be a merciful and faithful high priest in things pertaining to God, to make reconciliation for the sins of the people. 2:18 For in that he himself hath suffered being tempted, he is able to succour them that are tempted.
Hebrews 4:14 Seeing then that we have a great high priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession. 4:15 For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.
Hebrews 5:5 So also Christ glorified not himself to be made an high priest; but he that said unto him, Thou art my Son, to day have I begotten thee. 5:6 As he saith also in another place, Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec.
Hebrews 6:20 Whither the forerunner is for us entered, even Jesus, made an high priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec.
Hebrews 7:25 Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them. 7:26 For such an high priest became us, who is holy, harmless, undefiled, separate from sinners, and made higher than the heavens;
Hebrews 8:1 Now of the things which we have spoken this is the sum: We have such an high priest, who is set on the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens;
Hebrews 9:11 But Christ being come an high priest of good things to come, by a greater and more perfect tabernacle, not made with hands, that is to say, not of this building; 9:12 Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by his own blood he entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us.
Hebrews 10:19 Having therefore, brethren, boldness to enter into the holiest by the blood of Jesus, 10:20 By a new and living way, which he hath consecrated for us, through the veil, that is to say, his flesh; 10:21 And having an high priest over the house of God; 10:22 Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and our bodies washed with pure water.
Jesus our great high priest, through the blood He shed on the cross of Calvary has made all His followers of every generations, priest to God our Father. 1 Pet 2:9, Rev 1:5-6.
1 Peter 2:9 But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light:
Revelation 1:5 And from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, and the first begotten of the dead, and the prince of the kings of the earth. Unto him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in his own blood, 1:6 And hath made us kings and priests unto God and his Father; to him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.
Jesus after making us priest commanded us to learn from Him, things that will help us to minister well in our Priesthood office.
2. REPRODUCING JESUS OUR GREAT HIGH PRIEST, The greatest joy Jesus wants to see in His faithful followers, is that, we will all be like Him,
It is only when we are Christ like, that we become Christians. Mat 10: 25, Acts 11:26,
Matthew 10:25 It is enough for the disciple that he be as his master, and the servant as his lord. If they have called the master of the house Beelzebub, how much more shall they call them of his household?
Acts 11:26 And when he had found him, he brought him unto Antioch. And it came to pass, that a whole year they assembled themselves with the church, and taught much people. And the disciples were called Christians first in Antioch.
when we become Christians, we become little Christ and replicate and reproduce Him.
As Priest to Christ, what are the things He wants us to reproduce before the world, for them to believe in Him and receive Him.
HEB 7:26,
Hebrews 7:26 For such an high priest became us, who is holy, harmless, undefiled, separate from sinners, and made higher than the heavens;
OUR LIVES MUST BE HOLY, HARMLESS, UNDEFILED AND SEPARATE FROM SINNERS.
1. HOLY 1 PET 1:14-16. We must be holy everyday of our lives. LK 1:74-75.
1 Peter 1:14 As obedient children, not fashioning yourselves according to the former lusts in your ignorance: 1:15 But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation; 1:16 Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy.
Luke 1:74 That he would grant unto us, that we being delivered out of the hand of our enemies might serve him without fear, 1:75 In holiness and righteousness before him, all the days of our life.
Remember without holiness no man shall see the Lord. HEB 12:14.
Hebrews 12:14 Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord:
2. WE MUST BE HARMLESS MAT 10:16,
Matthew 10:16 Behold, I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves: be ye therefore wise as serpents, and harmless as doves.
As God”s priest our lives must not be harmful to our husbands, wives, our children, our neighbors’, our coworkers etc. We must be harmless. PHIL 2:15.
Philippians 2:15 That ye may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom ye shine as lights in the world;
3. WE MUST BE UNDEFILED LIKE OUR GREAT HIGH PRIEST.DAN 1:8,
Daniel 1:8 But Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself with the portion of the king’s meat, nor with the wine which he drank: therefore he requested of the prince of the eunuchs that he might not defile himself.
We must not allow any thing to defile us as priest to Jesus. ? MK 7:20-23.
Mark 7:20 And he said, That which cometh out of the man, that defileth the man. 7:21 For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders, 7:22 Thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lasciviousness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness: 7:23 All these evil things come from within, and defile the man.
. AS PRIESTS WE MUST NOT BE NEQUALLY YOKED, BUT BE SEPARATED FROM SINNERS. 2 COR 6:14-18.
2 Corinthians 6:14 Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness? 6:15 And what concord hath Christ with Belial? or what part hath he that believeth with an infidel? 6:16 And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? for ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people. 6:17 Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you, 6:18 And will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty.
Our Lord Himself will make us sufficient to do all these things. 2 COR 3:5, 2 COR 9:8, PHIL 4:13.
2 Corinthians 3:5 Not that we are sufficient of ourselves to think any thing as of ourselves; but our sufficiency is of God;
2 Corinthians 9:8 And God is able to make all grace abound toward you; that ye, always having all sufficiency in all things, may abound to every good work:
Philippians 4:13 I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.
3. REIGNING WITH JESUS, OUR GREAT HIGH PRIEST. If by the enabling Grace provided by our great high priest, we learn of Him. live like Him and reproduce Him, before the world. Then their will be a great reward for us. We will reign with him for all eternity. REV 1:5-6, 5:9-10
Amen.
Revelation 5:9 And they sung a new song, saying, Thou art worthy to take the book, and to open the seals thereof: for thou wast slain, and hast redeemed us to God by thy blood out of every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation; 5:10 And hast made us unto our God kings and priests: and we shall reign on the earth.
Brethren we have been redeemed with the blood of Jesus to be priest, but are you one?
Let us pray.
