Daily devotional study 35. John’s gospel. The importance of honouring Jesus.John  5:23 That all men should honour the Son, even as they honour the Father. He that honoureth not the Son honoureth not the Father which hath sent him.

Beloved Brethren the one most needful thing your life should showcase from now till Christ comes, is deliberate conscientious continual honouring of Christ with your life.

You must not be honouring or gratifying self with your life, but glorifying and honouring Him in every facets of your life.

Doing this consistently , conscientiously and determinedly will make you bring honour to your Father in heaven who commissioned Christ to Undertake the redemption of humanity of all ages and that includes you.

The scriptures reveals to us, how men of like passion in Bible days, honour Christ, determinedly, conscientiously and continually at whatever cost. Listen to our Lord again, admonishing all Bible believing believers of all ages and you in particular.

So what does honouring Jesus in your life entails.

1. Cleaving to Jesus through thick and thin.

John  6:66 From that time many of his disciples went back, and walked no more with him.  6:67 Then said Jesus unto the twelve, Will ye also go away?  6:68 Then Simon Peter answered him, Lord, to whom shall we go? thou hast the words of eternal life.  6:69 And we believe and are sure that thou art that Christ, the Son of the living God.

Acts  11:21 And the hand of the Lord was with them: and a great number believed, and turned unto the Lord.  11:22 Then tidings of these things came unto the ears of the church which was in Jerusalem: and they sent forth Barnabas, that he should go as far as Antioch.  11:23 Who, when he came, and had seen the grace of God, was glad, and exhorted them all, that with purpose of heart they would cleave unto the Lord.

Acts  21:10 And as we tarried there many days, there came down from Judaea a certain prophet, named Agabus.  21:11 And when he was come unto us, he took Paul’s girdle, and bound his own hands and feet, and said, Thus saith the Holy Ghost, So shall the Jews at Jerusalem bind the man that owneth this girdle, and shall deliver him into the hands of the Gentiles.  21:12 And when we heard these things, both we, and they of that place, besought him not to go up to Jerusalem.  21:13 Then Paul answered, What mean ye to weep and to break mine heart? for I am ready not to be bound only, but also to die at Jerusalem for the name of the Lord Jesus.

Revelation  14:4 These are they which were not defiled with women; for they are virgins. These are they which follow the Lamb whithersoever he goeth. These were redeemed from among men, being the firstfruits unto God and to the Lamb.  14:5 And in their mouth was found no guile: for they are without fault before the throne of God.

2.  Spending and being spent.

John  12:1 Then Jesus six days before the passover came to Bethany, where Lazarus was, which had been dead, whom he raised from the dead.  12:2 There they made him a supper; and Martha served: but Lazarus was one of them that sat at the table with him.  12:3 Then took Mary a pound of ointment of spikenard, very costly, and anointed the feet of Jesus, and wiped his feet with her hair: and the house was filled with the odour of the ointment.

John  20:1 The first day of the week cometh Mary Magdalene early, when it was yet dark, unto the sepulchre, and seeth the stone taken away from the sepulchre.  20:2 Then she runneth, and cometh to Simon Peter, and to the other disciple, whom Jesus loved, and saith unto them, They have taken away the LORD out of the sepulchre, and we know not where they have laid him.  20:3 Peter therefore went forth, and that other disciple, and came to the sepulchre.  20:4 So they ran both together: and the other disciple did outrun Peter, and came first to the sepulchre.  20:5 And he stooping down, and looking in, saw the linen clothes lying; yet went he not in.  20:6 Then cometh Simon Peter following him, and went into the sepulchre, and seeth the linen clothes lie,  20:7 And the napkin, that was about his head, not lying with the linen clothes, but wrapped together in a place by itself.  20:8 Then went in also that other disciple, which came first to the sepulchre, and he saw, and believed.  20:9 For as yet they knew not the scripture, that he must rise again from the dead.  20:10 Then the disciples went away again unto their own home.  20:11 But Mary stood without at the sepulchre weeping: and as she wept, she stooped down, and looked into the sepulchre,  20:12 And seeth two angels in white sitting, the one at the head, and the other at the feet, where the body of Jesus had lain.  20:13 And they say unto her, Woman, why weepest thou? She saith unto them, Because they have taken away my LORD, and I know not where they have laid him.  20:14 And when she had thus said, she turned herself back, and saw Jesus standing, and knew not that it was Jesus.  20:15 Jesus saith unto her, Woman, why weepest thou? whom seekest thou? She, supposing him to be the gardener, saith unto him, Sir, if thou have borne him hence, tell me where thou hast laid him, and I will take him away.  20:16 Jesus saith unto her, Mary. She turned herself, and saith unto him, Rabboni; which is to say, Master.  20:17 Jesus saith unto her, Touch me not; for I am not yet ascended to my Father: but go to my brethren, and say unto them, I ascend unto my Father, and your Father; and to my God, and your God.

Matthew  27:57 When the even was come, there came a rich man of Arimathaea, named Joseph, who also himself was Jesus’ disciple:  27:58 He went to Pilate, and begged the body of Jesus. Then Pilate commanded the body to be delivered.  27:59 And when Joseph had taken the body, he wrapped it in a clean linen cloth,  27:60 And laid it in his own new tomb, which he had hewn out in the rock: and he rolled a great stone to the door of the sepulchre, and departed.

Luke  22:7 Then came the day of unleavened bread, when the passover must be killed.  22:8 And he sent Peter and John, saying, Go and prepare us the passover, that we may eat.  22:9 And they said unto him, Where wilt thou that we prepare?  22:10 And he said unto them, Behold, when ye are entered into the city, there shall a man meet you, bearing a pitcher of water; follow him into the house where he entereth in.  22:11 And ye shall say unto the goodman of the house, The Master saith unto thee, Where is the guestchamber, where I shall eat the passover with my disciples?  22:12 And he shall shew you a large upper room furnished: there make ready.  22:13 And they went, and found as he had said unto them: and they made ready the passover.

Matthew  21:1 And when they drew nigh unto Jerusalem, and were come to Bethphage, unto the mount of Olives, then sent Jesus two disciples,  21:2 Saying unto them, Go into the village over against you, and straightway ye shall find an ass tied, and a colt with her: loose them, and bring them unto me.  21:3 And if any man say ought unto you, ye shall say, The Lord hath need of them; and straightway he will send them.

3. The way you talk with Him. In your conversations with Him at all times in all thing’s, publicly and privately.

John  11:20 Then Martha, as soon as she heard that Jesus was coming, went and met him: but Mary sat still in the house.  11:21 Then said Martha unto Jesus, Lord, if thou hadst been here, my brother had not died.  11:22 But I know, that even now, whatsoever thou wilt ask of God, God will give it thee.  11:23 Jesus saith unto her, Thy brother shall rise again.  11:24 Martha saith unto him, I know that he shall rise again in the resurrection at the last day.  11:25 Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live:  11:26 And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die. Believest thou this?  11:27 She saith unto him, Yea, Lord: I believe that thou art the Christ, the Son of God, which should come into the world.

4. Your attitude to His words in the Bible despite what others around you are doing.

Luke  10:38 Now it came to pass, as they went, that he entered into a certain village: and a certain woman named Martha received him into her house.  10:39 And she had a sister called Mary, which also sat at Jesus’ feet, and heard his word.  10:40 But Martha was cumbered about much serving, and came to him, and said, Lord, dost thou not care that my sister hath left me to serve alone? bid her therefore that she help me.  10:41 And Jesus answered and said unto her, Martha, Martha, thou art careful and troubled about many things:  10:42 But one thing is needful: and Mary hath chosen that good part, which shall not be taken away from her.

5. Consecrating all to serve Him.

Mark  10:21 Then Jesus beholding him loved him, and said unto him, One thing thou lackest: go thy way, sell whatsoever thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, take up the cross, and follow me.  10:22 And he was sad at that saying, and went away grieved: for he had great possessions.  10:23 And Jesus looked round about, and saith unto his disciples, How hardly shall they that have riches enter into the kingdom of God!  10:24 And the disciples were astonished at his words. But Jesus answereth again, and saith unto them, Children, how hard is it for them that trust in riches to enter into the kingdom of God!  10:25 It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God.  10:26 And they were astonished out of measure, saying among themselves, Who then can be saved?  10:27 And Jesus looking upon them saith, With men it is impossible, but not with God: for with God all things are possible.  10:28 Then Peter began to say unto him, Lo, we have left all, and have followed thee.  10:29 And Jesus answered and said, Verily I say unto you, There is no man that hath left house, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for my sake, and the gospel’s,  10:30 But he shall receive an hundredfold now in this time, houses, and brethren, and sisters, and mothers, and children, and lands, with persecutions; and in the world to come eternal life.

7. Determinedly and decisively Doing His perfect will at all times whatever the cost.

John  6:38 For I came down from heaven, not to do mine own will, but the will of him that sent me.

John  8:28 Then said Jesus unto them, When ye have lifted up the Son of man, then shall ye know that I am he, and that I do nothing of myself; but as my Father hath taught me, I speak these things.  8:29 And he that sent me is with me: the Father hath not left me alone; for I do always those things that please him.

John  10:17 Therefore doth my Father love me, because I lay down my life, that I might take it again.  10:18 No man taketh it from me, but I lay it down of myself. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again. This commandment have I received of my Father.  10:29 My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father’s hand.  10:30 I and my Father are one.  10:31 Then the Jews took up stones again to stone him.

8. Following the noble and exemplary  lifestyle of Paul apostle in saying and doing what you said, you will do for Christ.

1 Corinthians  11:1 Be ye followers of me, even as I also am of Christ.

Philippians  3:17 Brethren, be followers together of me, and mark them which walk so as ye have us for an ensample.

1 Timothy  1:16 Howbeit for this cause I obtained mercy, that in me first Jesus Christ might shew forth all longsuffering, for a pattern to them which should hereafter believe on him to life everlasting. Listen to Paul.

Acts  9:1 And Saul, yet breathing out threatenings and slaughter against the disciples of the Lord, went unto the high priest,  9:2 And desired of him letters to Damascus to the synagogues, that if he found any of this way, whether they were men or women, he might bring them bound unto Jerusalem.  9:3 And as he journeyed, he came near Damascus: and suddenly there shined round about him a light from heaven:  9:4 And he fell to the earth, and heard a voice saying unto him, Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou me?  9:5 And he said, Who art thou, Lord? And the Lord said, I am Jesus whom thou persecutest: it is hard for thee to kick against the pricks.  9:6 And he trembling and astonished said, Lord, what wilt thou have me to do? And the Lord said unto him, Arise, and go into the city, and it shall be told thee what thou must do.

Acts  26:12 Whereupon as I went to Damascus with authority and commission from the chief priests,  26:13 At midday, O king, I saw in the way a light from heaven, above the brightness of the sun, shining round about me and them which journeyed with me.  26:14 And when we were all fallen to the earth, I heard a voice speaking unto me, and saying in the Hebrew tongue, Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou me? it is hard for thee to kick against the pricks.  26:15 And I said, Who art thou, Lord? And he said, I am Jesus whom thou persecutest.  26:16 But rise, and stand upon thy feet: for I have appeared unto thee for this purpose, to make thee a minister and a witness both of these things which thou hast seen, and of those things in the which I will appear unto thee;  26:17 Delivering thee from the people, and from the Gentiles, unto whom now I send thee,  26:18 To open their eyes, and to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan unto God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins, and inheritance among them which are sanctified by faith that is in me.  26:19 Whereupon, O king Agrippa, I was not disobedient unto the heavenly vision:  26:20 But shewed first unto them of Damascus, and at Jerusalem, and throughout all the coasts of Judaea, and then to the Gentiles, that they should repent and turn to God, and do works meet for repentance.

Beloved pause here and sincerely examine yourself, are you honouring Christ with your life?

2 Corinthians  13:5 Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates?

Remember and never ever forget,. Jesus wants you to be using your life and endeavors to honour Him with a proof till He comes.

John  21:15 So when they had dined, Jesus saith to Simon Peter, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me more than these? He saith unto him, Yea, Lord; thou knowest that I love thee. He saith unto him, Feed my lambs.  21:16 He saith to him again the second time, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me? He saith unto him, Yea, Lord; thou knowest that I love thee. He saith unto him, Feed my sheep.  21:17 He saith unto him the third time, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me? Peter was grieved because he said unto him the third time, Lovest thou me? And he said unto him, Lord, thou knowest all things; thou knowest that I love thee. Jesus saith unto him, Feed my sheep.
