Daily devotional study 32. John’s gospel. The benefits of right attitude to Jesus.

John  4:43 Now after two days he departed thence, and went into Galilee.  4:44 For Jesus himself testified, that a prophet hath no honour in his own country.  4:45 Then when he was come into Galilee, the Galilaeans received him, having seen all the things that he did at Jerusalem at the feast: for they also went unto the feast.  4:46 So Jesus came again into Cana of Galilee, where he made the water wine. And there was a certain nobleman, whose son was sick at Capernaum.  4:47 When he heard that Jesus was come out of Judaea into Galilee, he went unto him, and besought him that he would come down, and heal his son: for he was at the point of death.  4:48 Then said Jesus unto him, Except ye see signs and wonders, ye will not believe.  4:49 The nobleman saith unto him, Sir, come down ere my child die.  4:50 Jesus saith unto him, Go thy way; thy son liveth. And the man believed the word that Jesus had spoken unto him, and he went his way.  4:51 And as he was now going down, his servants met him, and told him, saying, Thy son liveth.  4:52 Then enquired he of them the hour when he began to amend. And they said unto him, Yesterday at the seventh hour the fever left him.  4:53 So the father knew that it was at the same hour, in the which Jesus said unto him, Thy son liveth: and himself believed, and his whole house.  4:54 This is again the second miracle that Jesus did, when he was come out of Judaea into Galilee.

Beloved brethren in the time past and even now and till the end of time. There would be two categories of people inside and outside of the church.

On one hand those who believe Him and obedient to His words.

John  6:67 Then said Jesus unto the twelve, Will ye also go away?  6:68 Then Simon Peter answered him, Lord, to whom shall we go? thou hast the words of eternal life.  6:69 And we believe and are sure that thou art that Christ, the Son of the living God.

On the other hand those who reject Him and reject His words.

Luke  19:14 But his citizens hated him, and sent a message after him, saying, We will not have this man to reign over us.

John  12:46 I am come a light into the world, that whosoever believeth on me should not abide in darkness.  12:47 And if any man hear my words, and believe not, I judge him not: for I came not to judge the world, but to save the world.  12:48 He that rejecteth me, and receiveth not my words, hath one that judgeth him: the word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day.

Revelation  17:14 These shall make war with the Lamb, and the Lamb shall overcome them: for he is Lord of lords, and King of kings: and they that are with him are called, and chosen, and faithful.

The singular reason why you should believe Him and obey Him in all things is because that decision will determine what you will benefit from Him in this life and the one to come.

Matthew  25:46 And these shall go away into everlasting punishment: but the righteous into life eternal.

The Bible reveals what the attitude of the people were in the days of old, but very very unfortunately, the same attitude still continues till now and to the end of time.

Those who do not believe Him.

Matthew  13:53 And it came to pass, that when Jesus had finished these parables, he departed thence.  13:54 And when he was come into his own country, he taught them in their synagogue, insomuch that they were astonished, and said, Whence hath this man this wisdom, and these mighty works?  13:55 Is not this the carpenter’s son? is not his mother called Mary? and his brethren, James, and Joses, and Simon, and Judas?  13:56 And his sisters, are they not all with us? Whence then hath this man all these things?  13:57 And they were offended in him. But Jesus said unto them, A prophet is not without honour, save in his own country, and in his own house.  13:58 And he did not many mighty works there because of their unbelief.

Those who believe and obey His words.

Luke  10:38 Now it came to pass, as they went, that he entered into a certain village: and a certain woman named Martha received him into her house.  10:39 And she had a sister called Mary, which also sat at Jesus’ feet, and heard his word.  10:40 But Martha was cumbered about much serving, and came to him, and said, Lord, dost thou not care that my sister hath left me to serve alone? bid her therefore that she help me.  10:41 And Jesus answered and said unto her, Martha, Martha, thou art careful and troubled about many things:  10:42 But one thing is needful: and Mary hath chosen that good part, which shall not be taken away from her.

Mark  5:21 And when Jesus was passed over again by ship unto the other side, much people gathered unto him: and he was nigh unto the sea.  5:22 And, behold, there cometh one of the rulers of the synagogue, Jairus by name; and when he saw him, he fell at his feet,  5:23 And besought him greatly, saying, My little daughter lieth at the point of death: I pray thee, come and lay thy hands on her, that she may be healed; and she shall live.  5:24 And Jesus went with him; and much people followed him, and thronged him.  5:25 And a certain woman, which had an issue of blood twelve years,  5:26 And had suffered many things of many physicians, and had spent all that she had, and was nothing bettered, but rather grew worse,  5:27 When she had heard of Jesus, came in the press behind, and touched his garment.  5:28 For she said, If I may touch but his clothes, I shall be whole.  5:29 And straightway the fountain of her blood was dried up; and she felt in her body that she was healed of that plague.  5:30 And Jesus, immediately knowing in himself that virtue had gone out of him, turned him about in the press, and said, Who touched my clothes?  5:31 And his disciples said unto him, Thou seest the multitude thronging thee, and sayest thou, Who touched me?  5:32 And he looked round about to see her that had done this thing.  5:33 But the woman fearing and trembling, knowing what was done in her, came and fell down before him, and told him all the truth.  5:34 And he said unto her, Daughter, thy faith hath made thee whole; go in peace, and be whole of thy plague.  5:35 While he yet spake, there came from the ruler of the synagogue’s house certain which said, Thy daughter is dead: why troublest thou the Master any further?  5:36 As soon as Jesus heard the word that was spoken, he saith unto the ruler of the synagogue, Be not afraid, only believe.  5:37 And he suffered no man to follow him, save Peter, and James, and John the brother of James.  5:38 And he cometh to the house of the ruler of the synagogue, and seeth the tumult, and them that wept and wailed greatly.  5:39 And when he was come in, he saith unto them, Why make ye this ado, and weep? the damsel is not dead, but sleepeth.  5:40 And they laughed him to scorn. But when he had put them all out, he taketh the father and the mother of the damsel, and them that were with him, and entereth in where the damsel was lying.  5:41 And he took the damsel by the hand, and said unto her, Talitha cumi; which is, being interpreted, Damsel, I say unto thee, arise.  5:42 And straightway the damsel arose, and walked; for she was of the age of twelve years. And they were astonished with a great astonishment.  5:43 And he charged them straitly that no man should know it; and commanded that something should be given her to eat.

Combination of the two.

Luke  23:39 And one of the malefactors which were hanged railed on him, saying, If thou be Christ, save thyself and us.  23:40 But the other answering rebuked him, saying, Dost not thou fear God, seeing thou art in the same condemnation?  23:41 And we indeed justly; for we receive the due reward of our deeds: but this man hath done nothing amiss.  23:42 And he said unto Jesus, Lord, remember me when thou comest into thy kingdom.  23:43 And Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, To day shalt thou be with me in paradise.

John  6:36 But I said unto you, That ye also have seen me, and believe not.  6:37 All that the Father giveth me shall come to me; and him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out.  6:38 For I came down from heaven, not to do mine own will, but the will of him that sent me.  6:39 And this is the Father’s will which hath sent me, that of all which he hath given me I should lose nothing, but should raise it up again at the last day.  6:40 And this is the will of him that sent me, that every one which seeth the Son, and believeth on him, may have everlasting life: and I will raise him up at the last day.  6:41 The Jews then murmured at him, because he said, I am the bread which came down from heaven.  6:42 And they said, Is not this Jesus, the son of Joseph, whose father and mother we know? how is it then that he saith, I came down from heaven?  6:43 Jesus therefore answered and said unto them, Murmur not among yourselves.  6:60 Many therefore of his disciples, when they had heard this, said, This is an hard saying; who can hear it?  6:64 But there are some of you that believe not. For Jesus knew from the beginning who they were that believed not, and who should betray him.  6:66 From that time many of his disciples went back, and walked no more with him.  6:67 Then said Jesus unto the twelve, Will ye also go away?  6:68 Then Simon Peter answered him, Lord, to whom shall we go? thou hast the words of eternal life.  6:69 And we believe and are sure that thou art that Christ, the Son of the living God.  6:70 Jesus answered them, Have not I chosen you twelve, and one of you is a devil?  6:71 He spake of Judas Iscariot the son of Simon: for he it was that should betray him, being one of the twelve.

John 3:18
He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.

Beloved brethren pause here and sincerely examine yourself.  Where do you belong?

2 Corinthians  13:5 Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates?

If you fall into the category of those who believe and are also obedient to Him, continue till He comes.

But if you discover that you belong to the other group, please repeat now, tomorrow might be too late.

The good Lord shall help you to be wise unto salvation in Jesus name.
