I will keep thy statutes [ I will obey your decrees ]: O forsake me not utterly [ Please don’t give up on me! ]. – Psalms 119:8

Dearly beloved you would have seen many people at the end of each year making resolutions of what they would not be doing in the new year. But then, you would have discovered that the resolutions did not help them much, before they fall back to doing those things, they promised not to be doing.

The reason for this is very simple. It takes more than resolution to walk with God according to His revealed will in the Bible.

Paul apostle prior to his conversion experienced this.

Rom 7:18 — Rom 7:19 For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh,) dwelleth no good thing: for to will is present with me; but how to perform that which is good I find not. For the good that I would I do not: but the evil which I would not, that I do.

He was able to overcome this, when he reached out to Christ our Lord for help.

Rom 7:24 — Rom 7:25 O wretched man that I am! who shall deliver me from the body of this death? I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord. So then with the mind I myself serve the law of God; but with the flesh the law of sin.

This was the situation of the psalmist and many in Christ Church, globally. They wished they could be doing the revealed will of God, but lack the strength.

So the psalmist reached out to God for help and strength to do His words and will.

I will keep thy statutes [ I will obey your decrees ]: O forsake me not utterly [ Please don’t give up on me! ]. – Psalms 119:8

See this passage, amplified.

I will keep thy statutes. This is my will and wish ; but, that I may be able to carry it out, O forsake me not utterly. Without thee I have no strength to do aright.

Beloved you will not be able to do Gods will and obey Him, implicitly, until you see your utter helplessness without Christ , like apostle Paul discovered.

John 15:5 I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.

But then with Him, obeying God and doing His will becomes stress-free.

Philippians 4:13 I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.

Beloved see how this truth is affirmed severally in the scriptures.

Rom 9:16 So then it is not of him that willeth, nor of him that runneth, but of God that sheweth mercy.

2Co 3:4 — 2Co 3:5 And such trust have we through Christ to God-ward: Not that we are sufficient of ourselves to think any thing as of ourselves; but our sufficiency is of God;

Phi 2:13 For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure.

Philippians 3:3 For we are the circumcision, which worship God in the spirit, and rejoice in Christ Jesus, and have no confidence in the flesh.

Beloved , God our Father is the custodian of strength and grace. All you need is to reach out to Him for strength like the psalmist.

2 Corinthians 9:8 And God is able to make all grace abound toward you; that ye, always having all sufficiency in all things, may abound to every good work:

1Co 3:6 — 1Co 3:7 I have planted, Apollos watered; but God gave the increase. So then neither is he that planteth any thing, neither he that watereth; but God that giveth the increase.

Beloved let God alone be your confidence and you will walk with Him in holiness and righteousness without stress. It shall be so in Jesus name.

Just in case you have difficulties obeying God’s revealed will, do what the psalmist and apostle Paul did.

Proverbs 3:26 For the LORD shall be thy confidence, and shall keep thy foot from being taken.
