Dearly beloved brethren, it is very very important, we learn the art of answered prayers in this passage.

God is willing to grant our requests for anything, and everything, when we come to Him, pleading for His promised mercies.

Our Lord Jesus Christ told the stories of two people that went to pray and the one who had his prayer answered, because he came to God, looking up to him for His mercies.

Luk 18:9 — Luk 18:14 And he spake this parable unto certain which trusted in themselves that they were righteous, and despised others: Two men went up into the temple to pray; the one a Pharisee, and the other a publican. The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, God, I thank thee, that I am not as other men are, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this publican. I fast twice in the week, I give tithes of all that I possess. And the publican, standing afar off, would not lift up so much as his eyes unto heaven, but smote upon his breast, saying, God be merciful to me a sinner. I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other: for every one that exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted.

Jacob, also pleaded to God to deliver him, on the basis of His mercies, when Esau, his brother was coming with four hundred hired people to slay him. See it yourself.

Gen 32:9 — Gen 32:12 And Jacob said, O God of my father Abraham, and God of my father Isaac, the LORD which saidst unto me, Return unto thy country, and to thy kindred, and I will deal well with thee: I am not worthy of the least of all the mercies, and of all the truth, which thou hast shewed unto thy servant; for with my staff I passed over this Jordan; and now I am become two bands. Deliver me, I pray thee, from the hand of my brother, from the hand of Esau: for I fear him, lest he will come and smite me, and the mother with the children. And thou saidst, I will surely do thee good, and make thy seed as the sand of the sea, which cannot be numbered for multitude.
I intreated thy favour [ I sought thy face ] with my whole heart: be merciful [ gracious, pitiful and compassionate ] unto me according to thy word. – Psalms 119:58

This was the approach of king David at this point. He sought wholeheartedly the favour of God on the account of His promised mercies.

I intreated thy favour [ I sought thy face ] with my whole heart: be merciful [ gracious, pitiful and compassionate ] unto me according to thy word. – Psalms 119:58

See this same passage in other Bible versions.

NLT
Psalms 119:58bWith all my heart I want your blessings. Be merciful as you promised.

AMP BIBLE
Psalm 119:58 I entreated Your favor with my whole heart; be merciful and gracious to me according to Your promise.

This same approach is seen in the new testament. We received everything from God freely, on the account of what our Lord Jesus Christ had done for us on the cross of Calvary.

Romans 8:32 He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things?

Our Lord promised us, that we will get our prayers answered always, as we ask on His merit, as we ask in His name.

John 15:16 Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain: that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it you.
John 16:23-24 And in that day ye shall ask me nothing. Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall ask the Father in my name, he will give it you. Hitherto have ye asked nothing in my name: ask, and ye shall receive, that your joy may be full.
I intreated thy favour [ I sought thy face ] with my whole heart: be merciful [ gracious, pitiful and compassionate ] unto me according to thy word. – Psalms 119:58

The blessed Holy Spirit enjoins believers and you in particular to come boldly to the throne of grace on Christ’s merit and obtain the mercies of God.

Hebrews 4:16 Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.

Beloved, don’t fall a victim of the Pharisee, who came to God to pray on the basis of his own righteousness that were filthy rags before God,

Isaiah 64:6 But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away.

But come on the merit of the finished work of Christ on the cross and obtain promised mercies of a faithful, compassionate and unfailing God. This way, before you call, He will answer your petitions in Jesus name.

Isaiah 65:24 And it shall come to pass, that before they call, I will answer; and while they are yet speaking, I will hear.
1 John 3:22 And whatsoever we ask, we receive of him, because we keep his commandments, and do those things that are pleasing in his sight.
1 John 5:14-15 And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us: And if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him.

Beloved , what are you waiting for, come boldly to your loving Father in heaven, pleading the mercies of the finished work of Christ on the cross and get your petitions answered. It shall be so in Jesus name.

I intreated thy favour [ I sought thy face ] with my whole heart: be merciful [ gracious, pitiful and compassionate ] unto me according to thy word. – Psalms 119:58
