Dearly beloved brethren, you must never ever forget, one of the most important counsel of Jesus to believers of all ages and you in particular.
This counsel was repeated by our Lord, because of its importance and consequences. See this all important counsel.
John 8:11 She said, No man, Lord. And Jesus said unto her, Neither do I condemn thee: go, and sin no more.
John 5:14 Afterward Jesus findeth him in the temple, and said unto him, Behold, thou art made whole: sin no more, lest a worse thing come unto thee.
The blessed Holy Spirit exhorts believers to take advantage of the grace of God and depart from iniquity.
2 Timothy 2:19 Nevertheless the foundation of God standeth sure, having this seal, The Lord knoweth them that are his. And, Let every one that nameth the name of Christ depart from iniquity.
Before I was afflicted I went astray [ I wandered off until you disciplined me ]: but now have I kept thy word. – Psalms 119:67
The reason why God’s people are counselled not to sin, is because of the earthly pains and eternal consequences associated with it.
1. Earthly pains and losses.
Psalms 107:17-18 Fools because of their transgression, and because of their iniquities, are afflicted. Their soul abhorreth all manner of meat; and they draw near unto the gates of death.
Ezekiel 18:30 Therefore I will judge you, O house of Israel, every one according to his ways, saith the Lord GOD. Repent, and turn yourselves from all your transgressions; so iniquity shall not be your ruin.
Jeremiah 5:25 Your iniquities have turned away these things, and your sins have withholden good things from you.
Isaiah 59:1 Behold, the LORD’s hand is not shortened, that it cannot save; neither his ear heavy, that it cannot hear: 59:2 But your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your sins have hid his face from you, that he will not hear.
Before I was afflicted I went astray [ I wandered off until you disciplined me ]: but now have I kept thy word. – Psalms 119:67
2. Eternal pains and losses.
Psalms 9:17 The wicked shall be turned into hell, and all the nations that forget God.
Matthew 7:21-23 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.
The Bible says anyone and everyone commiting sin, belong to the devil. It went further that true Bible believing believers can not sin and must not sin.
1 John 3:8-9 He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil. Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God.
It was this eternal truth king David was affirming, through his own personal experience, about the earthly and eternal afflictions that shall be the lot of those who are sinning wilfully. See it yourself.
Before I was afflicted I went astray [ I wandered off until you disciplined me ]: but now have I kept thy word. – Psalms 119:67
Psalms 119:71 It is good for me that I have been afflicted; that I might learn thy statutes.
