And all the days that Adam lived were nine hundred and thirty years: and he died. – Genesis 5:5
Dearly beloved brethren, the book of Genesis in chapter five was a very sad commentary of the people that were mentioned.
All of them apart from Enoch and Noah, had nothing mentioned about them apart from the fact that they lived and died. See it yourself.
Adam
And all the days that Adam lived were nine hundred and thirty years: and he died. – Genesis 5:5
Seth
5:8 And all the days of Seth were nine hundred and twelve years: and he died.
Enos
5:11 And all the days of Enos were nine hundred and five years: and he died.
Cainnan
5:14 And all the days of Cainan were nine hundred and ten years: and he died.
Mahalaleel
5:17 And all the days of Mahalaleel were eight hundred ninety and five years: and he died.
Jared
5:20 And all the days of Jared were nine hundred sixty and two years: and he died.
Enoch
5:23 And all the days of Enoch were three hundred sixty and five years: 5:24 And Enoch walked with God: and he was not; for God took him.
Methuselah
5:27 And all the days of Methuselah were nine hundred sixty and nine years: and he died.
Lamech
5:31 And all the days of Lamech were seven hundred seventy and seven years: and he died.
Noah
Genesis 5:32 And Noah was five hundred years old: and Noah begat Shem, Ham, and Japheth.
And all the days that Adam lived were nine hundred and thirty years: and he died. – Genesis 5:5
Beloved brethren, this same thing is the story of multitude in the church world globally and may be, even you in particular. Please examine yourself.
The reason for this despicable commentary are:
1. They thought there was no profit in serving God.
Job 21:15
What is the Almighty, that we should serve him? and what profit should we have, if we pray unto him?
Job 22:2 Can a man be profitable unto God, as he that is wise may be profitable unto himself? 22:3 Is it any pleasure to the Almighty, that thou art righteous? or is it gain to him, that thou makest thy ways perfect?
Job 34:9
For he hath said, It profiteth a man nothing that he should delight himself with God.
Job 35:3
For thou saidst, What advantage will it be unto thee? and, What profit shall I have, if I be cleansed from my sin?
And all the days that Adam lived were nine hundred and thirty years: and he died. – Genesis 5:5
2. They simply did not’ want to think about God or retain Him in their knowledge.
Psalms 10:4
The wicked, through the pride of his countenance, will not seek after God: God is not in all his thoughts.
Romans 1:21 Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened. 1:28 And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient;
And all the days that Adam lived were nine hundred and thirty years: and he died. – Genesis 5:5
3.. They spent their lifetime pursing ephemeral, making name for themselves and are not rich towards God.
Psalms 49:10 For he seeth that wise men die, likewise the fool and the brutish person perish, and leave their wealth to others. 49:11 Their inward thought is, that their houses shall continue for ever, and their dwelling places to all generations; they call their lands after their own names. 49:12 Nevertheless man being in honour abideth not: he is like the beasts that perish.
Matthew 16:26
For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?
Mark 8:36
For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?
Luke 9:25
For what is a man advantaged, if he gain the whole world, and lose himself, or be cast away?
Luke 12:15 And he said unto them, Take heed, and beware of covetousness: for a man’s life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth. 12:16 And he spake a parable unto them, saying, The ground of a certain rich man brought forth plentifully: 12:17 And he thought within himself, saying, What shall I do, because I have no room where to bestow my fruits? 12:18 And he said, This will I do: I will pull down my barns, and build greater; and there will I bestow all my fruits and my goods. 12:19 And I will say to my soul, Soul, thou hast much goods laid up for many years; take thine ease, eat, drink, and be merry. 12:20 But God said unto him, Thou fool, this night thy soul shall be required of thee: then whose shall those things be, which thou hast provided? 12:21 So is he that layeth up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God.
Pause and examine yourself. Is this not true about you?
You don’t have any record in heaven, that you are doing anything to promote His glory and advance His kingdom.
The consequences for this attitude is collosal and it will be for all eternity.
It is time to wake up and make your life count in doing something for which you shall be rewarded for all eternity.
John 21:15 So when they had dined, Jesus saith to Simon Peter, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me more than these? He saith unto him, Yea, Lord; thou knowest that I love thee. He saith unto him, Feed my lambs. 21:16 He saith to him again the second time, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me? He saith unto him, Yea, Lord; thou knowest that I love thee. He saith unto him, Feed my sheep. 21:17 He saith unto him the third time, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me? Peter was grieved because he said unto him the third time, Lovest thou me? And he said unto him, Lord, thou knowest all things; thou knowest that I love thee. Jesus saith unto him, Feed my sheep.
The good Lord shall help you in particular to be wise unto salvation in Jesus name.
