Readiness for your departure.

by Bishop Peter Babalolain Devotional

2 Timothy  4:6 For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand.  4:7 I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith:  4:8 Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.

2 Peter  1:12 Wherefore I will not be negligent to put you always in remembrance of these things, though ye know them, and be established in the present truth.  1:13 Yea, I think it meet, as long as I am in this tabernacle, to stir you up by putting you in remembrance;  1:14 Knowing that shortly I must put off this my tabernacle, even as our Lord Jesus Christ hath shewed me.  1:15 Moreover I will endeavour that ye may be able after my decease to have these things always in remembrance.

Apostle Paul and Peter were mindful of their departure to the new world and lived in readiness for it.

It is very very important for you as a Bible believing believer to always live in readiness for your own departure too

But then you must be looking forward to be with Christ, whenever you depart.

Philippians  1:23 For I am in a strait betwixt two, having a desire to depart, and to be with Christ; which is far better:

Thank God you are a very wise person. Only the unwise people, live their lives and are not mindful of their departure from this side of heaven.

Psalms  49:10 For he seeth that wise men die, likewise the fool and the brutish person perish, and leave their wealth to others.  49:11 Their inward thought is, that their houses shall continue for ever, and their dwelling places to all generations; they call their lands after their own names.  49:12 Nevertheless man being in honour abideth not: he is like the beasts that perish.

There are  many  of such people in the Bible.

The unthoughtful rich man.

Luke  12:16 And he spake a parable unto them, saying, The ground of a certain rich man brought forth plentifully:  12:17 And he thought within himself, saying, What shall I do, because I have no room where to bestow my fruits?  12:18 And he said, This will I do: I will pull down my barns, and build greater; and there will I bestow all my fruits and my goods.  12:19 And I will say to my soul, Soul, thou hast much goods laid up for many years; take thine ease, eat, drink, and be merry.  12:20 But God said unto him, Thou fool, this night thy soul shall be required of thee: then whose shall those things be, which thou hast provided?  12:21 So is he that layeth up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God.

The rich man was not liberal.

Luke  16:19 There was a certain rich man, which was clothed in purple and fine linen, and fared sumptuously every day:  16:20 And there was a certain beggar named Lazarus, which was laid at his gate, full of sores,  16:21 And desiring to be fed with the crumbs which fell from the rich man’s table: moreover the dogs came and licked his sores.  16:22 And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels into Abraham’s bosom: the rich man also died, and was buried;  16:23 And in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom.  16:24 And he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame.

King Herod

Acts  12:21 And upon a set day Herod, arrayed in royal apparel, sat upon his throne, and made an oration unto them.  12:22 And the people gave a shout, saying, It is the voice of a god, and not of a man.  12:23 And immediately the angel of the Lord smote him, because he gave not God the glory: and he was eaten of worms, and gave up the ghost.

So always live each day as if, it is the last.

Psalms  90:9 For all our days are passed away in thy wrath: we spend our years as a tale that is told.  90:10 The days of our years are threescore years and ten; and if by reason of strength they be fourscore years, yet is their strength labour and sorrow; for it is soon cut off, and we fly away.  90:12 So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom.

Be prepared always to meet with God in heaven.

Amos  4:12 Therefore thus will I do unto thee, O Israel: and because I will do this unto thee, prepare to meet thy God, O Israel.

Remember there are two eternal ends.

Matthew  25:46 And these shall go away into everlasting punishment: but the righteous into life eternal.

By virtue of the road you are walking, you are going towards one.

Matthew  7:13 Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat:  7:14 Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.

The decision as to where you will end is all yours. The bucks stops with you.

What you are presently doing with God’s eternal words will determine where you will spend eternity.

John  12:46 I am come a light into the world, that whosoever believeth on me should not abide in darkness.  12:47 And if any man hear my words, and believe not, I judge him not: for I came not to judge the world, but to save the world.  12:48 He that rejecteth me, and receiveth not my words, hath one that judgeth him: the word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day.

Revelation  22:18 For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book:  22:19 And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.

Continue to think of where you will spend eternity and do necessary things that will guarantee your eternal wellbeing.

Deuteronomy  32:29 O that they were wise, that they understood this, that they would consider their latter end!

Proverbs  19:20 Hear counsel, and receive instruction, that thou mayest be wise in thy latter end.

God’s grace will be sufficient for you.

2 Corinthians  9:8 And God is able to make all grace abound toward you; that ye, always having all sufficiency in all things, may abound to every good work:

Be wise.
